    در مورد دمیل کارگردان باید یک چیز را پذیرفت: او کارگردان ظریفی نیست! انگار همه چیز را فریاد می‌زند. او استاد اغراق است. هزاران آدم می‌بینیم. دکور واقعی می‌بینیم. فضای واقعی مصر و سینا در بخشهایی از فیلم حضور دارد. پارامونت نیز به فیلمبرداری در مصر و سینا و ساخت یکی از بزرگترین دکورهای سینمایی آن دوران اشاره می‌کند. صحنه شکافته‌شدن دریای سرخ هنوز هم حیرت‌انگیز است. نه لزوما چون از CGI امروز واقعی‌تر است؛ بلکه چون وزن تصویری دارد. آب، جمعیت، صخره، آسمان و حرکت بازیگران همگی در یک میزانسن عظیم قرار گرفته‌اند. جلوه‌های ویژه فیلم نیز اسکار گرفت و انجمن فیلم آمریکا از جاه‌طلبی فنی این سکانس یاد کرده است. به‌نظرم بهترین عنصر دراماتیک فیلم تقابل موسی و رامسس است. Charlton Heston در نقش موسی عمدا مثل یک مجسمه باستانی بازی می‌کند: قامت راست، صدای سنگین، حرکات محدود و نگاه نافذ. در مقابل، Yul Brynner رامسسی سرد، مغرور و تقریبا پولادین می‌سازد. به‌نظرم ضعیفترین بخش فیلم ماجرای موسی، نفرتیتی و رامسس است.
